As I had been reading lots of physics-type books on quantum mechanics and the origins of the universe, I had managed to get ahold of "Einstein's Dreams" by Alan Lightman. I was surprised that it wasn't pop science, but a series of short stories (1-3 pages) all fictional depictions dwelling upon time (e.g. some places were time runs disjointly, or the future is fixed in time, or cause-effect is reversed). All of which have an interest to them, but none are long enough to exhaust the premise.
Proved to be a very nice read for vacation time - easy to fit in another story or two.
